PALEONTOLOGY AND ASSOCIATED SCIENCES
Paleontology is the science that studys the organic beings whose remains are fossilized.
As science, it was born in XVIII century, with Cuvier, though ancient greeks had given some fossil's interpretations very similiar to the nowadays ones. From the geological point of view, the finding of some characteristic fossils, from one period, in discontinuous and far away land stratos, allows the correlation of the relative age of the stratos.
Paleontology is in the Evolution, Zoology and Botany base. It is also linked to Genetic, Embriology and Ontology, allowing at the same time the Taxonomy and Philogeny.
Paleontology can have lot of evidences over the efects of some causes that explain the history of our Planet, and its components, which are complemented by the Ecology.
It has had to specialize in a lot of branches: Paleobotany (knowledge of ancient flowers), Paleozoology (study of ancient faunas), Paleoclimatology and Paleoecology, that drive to Paleobiogeografy (study of Fauna and flora related to the ambience and its geografical distribution), and Paleoantropology (Man's history).
We'll talk about those sciences in short time.
